About the Program
Run for Second Chances is an initiative led by Marco Whittaker, an environmentalist, community activist, and NYC Marathon runner, dedicated to empowering youth and creating second chances.
The program harnesses the power of running and community engagement to open real opportunities for at-risk youth across New Jersey.
2025–2026 School Year Impact Goals
- Engage more than 500 youth from underserved communities through school and community events.
- Provide 200 pairs of performance running shoes to low-income high school track and field athletes.
- Inspire communities with a message of resilience, discipline, and hope.
Running for a Bigger Cause
In addition to his youth-focused initiative, Marco will run the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon as a member of The Fortune Society’s charity team. The Fortune Society is a New York City nonprofit dedicated to supporting successful reentry after incarceration, promoting alternatives to incarceration, and strengthening communities.
By running for The Fortune Society, Marco will raise awareness for their mission while advancing his own local efforts in New Jersey, fueling second chances on both sides of the Hudson.
The Event
On November 2, 2025, Marco will take on the TCS New York City Marathon once again, but this time he is running for more than a medal.
As part of the world’s largest marathon, Marco’s story will shine a light on second chances, community empowerment, and hope, showing how every mile can change a life.
